US: 2006 Senior Games

The 2006 Indiana Senior Games will be held June 15-18 in Carmel, Indiana and surrounding Hamilton County facilities. The event will feature 18 sports, of which 17 will serve as qualifying events to the 2007 National Senior Games to be held in Louisville, Kentucky. Registration materials and updated Indiana Senior Games information are available at www.indianaseniorgames.com.

The Indiana Senior Games is expected to bring anywhere from 750-1,000 athletes ages 50 years and older to Hamilton County. The senior games age divisions are broken down in five-year increments. Events included in the 2006 Indiana Senior games are: archery, badminton, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, race walk, racquetball, road race, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field and volleyball. The eighteenth sport, mountain biking, will be included as a demonstration sport.

“This multi-sport event offers Carmel and Hamilton County the opportunity to showcase the quality of our facilities to a statewide audience so that in future years we will hopefully be known as one of the premier State Senior Games in the Midwest,” said Brad Hart, director of sports and market development at the Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The support of various local clubs, organizations and sponsors, CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions and the Cinergy Foundation have been tremendous and we look forward to this event being a highlight on our annual calendar of events.”

“CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions is pleased to sponsor and salutes and supports the Indiana Senior Games, stated Duane Etienne, president and CEO of CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions. “The Games are a tangible demonstration of possibilities: that growing older can include a vibrant, energetic and active lifestyle. The Games are a call to all older adults to take advantage of opportunities to maintain good health and an active life."

The Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau, established in 1991, is a not-for-profit tourism organization dedicated to promote and encourage the development, in Hamilton County, of tourism, conventions, visitors, trade shows, festivals and other special events.
