Frank Drozdowski : "Seniorenausstatter is first department for seniors in Germany"

Seniorenausstatter is first department for seniors in Germany. Interview of E-Commerce/Layout

Could you present the Seniorenausstatter concept ?

We opened the first department for seniors in Germany last year in March. We opened it, because we think this was a missing think for old people for a long time. During several years Mrs. Deliga visited the retirement homes. She listened to the complaints of the elderly people and knows now the problems.

What do you sale in these shops?

All the products they did not find in usual stores, we proposing here to them. We sell every kind of products like clothes, medial and normal shoos, underwear, nightwear, cosmetics, technical thinks like phones with big buttons and computers with enlarged keyboards or speaking alarm clocks, walkers on wheels, gifts and presents and some typical products for our region like "Spreewaldgurken".

The most popular ones are the clothes because we have lots of sizes which people doesn’t find in normal stores and of course our technical products like the phone.

We have large changing rooms for two people, large walks and of course no steps in the whole store. The prices and descriptions of products are written in large letters and toilets are accessible to wheelchairs. Moreover, clothing bought here can be quickly altered and purchases can be delivered to your car or directly sent to your home.

Yes we would say that our idea is a great success at the moment, the people like our supermarket.

Who are your customers ?

Some clients arrive by car from whole Germany, but the most by bus. They make a nice bus trip to us with shopping and a funny fashion show. We organise over 10 busloads a week, that busloads are the basic of our success. Our clients started with 60 years, but we have also some younger ones. We open every day from Monday to Saturday.

Großräschen is situated in the east of Germany in the state Brandenburg between the big cities Berlin and Dreden.

The next bigger city is Cottbus with a population about 100.000 people. The supermarket is about 800 square meters large, it is the only one in Germany.

But we are planning to open more in Germany and later Europe, like 10 in the next two years.
